There are a couple of thing to keep in mind when shopping for a new washer. There are two styles to choose from front load washers, and top load. There are many manufactures, colors, options and they all preform slightly different.
The first thing to consider is the location of your washer. Is it on the first floor, second, third? This question is very important because your typical front load machine weights up to 350lbs and spins clothes out around 2400 RPM’s, add 40lbs of wet clothes and you see the problem. The best place for a front load washer is on a cement floor in the garage or basement. Although some people never have a issue with second story installation of a front load washer many people do. My personal recommendation is any thing above first floor you should consider getting a top load washer.
Front load washers:
The number one benefit of owning a front load washer is energy savings. Front load washers use a quarter of the water, and they spin the clothes out so fast you use less energy when its time to dry.
Some of the most common complaints from front load customers is smell, mold and small items will not spin out. Although all are true there are things you can do to prevent these things from happening. keep the front door open when not in use will help keep the smell, mold and meld ow from happening also running a half cup of vinegar every month will keep it clean and smelling good. Washing a couple of other item with those sheets or any other smaller load will help with the spin issue.
Top load washers:
Many people still prefer top load washers because they typically have less issues to deal with. No mold build up, you can just stuff your clothes in push start and walk away. No special types of soap to use. One thing I recommend on the front load washers is to purchase one with a tall agitator tower. Many of the new top load washers just have a flat disc in the bottom of the spin basket. These machines had more issue spinning the clothes out in the spin cycle that others.
I hope these washer pointers help you in the purchasing of a new washer!
